Teal Tuesday! My CG nightmare

Standard

Hi sweets! It’s Teal Tuesday again (technically its Wednesday cos I am late again).

It’s free style tuesday and we did a vote on the more popular colors that we have. Anyway China Glaze’s Atlantis is on the list and I have been wanting to try this baby for a while now.

What a problem child this is!!! Absolute nightmare. It was gloopy, really thick and generally hard to work with. The color is a lovely shimmering teal with holo hex suspended in a teal jelly base.

I did this freehand half moon and stuck some shimmer tiny sequins and a crystal in the middle for each finger. Very bling and princess-y.

Love how the effect came out. Shame about the formula though. What do you think?

Party on nails!

Standard

Hi lovelies!
Quite late for a scheduled post 🙂 today I have for you party nails!
It’s a really festive an happy blingy look that I absolutely love love love! On with the pics!

20120729-211702.jpg
I used Models Own Emerald Black for base and top up with Glitter Daze’s Flower Girl. Look at the bling! I love it that this flower girl has little pink flowers on top of the various other multi-colored glitters suspended in a light red base.

20120729-212010.jpg
This is my first Glitter Daze polish but definitely won’t be the last cos it’s just so unique and bling! This was just two coats and the base has great consistency, no dragging and no problem in getting the glitter out of the bottle. Overall, two thumbs up!
Till the next polish! Have a great week ahead everyone! 🙂
Glitter Daze can be purchased from mei mei or from Glitter Daze on Etsy.

Teal Tuesday!

Standard

Hi everyone!
This is my very first Teal Tuesday entry. It’s a wonderful idea started by Gnarly Nails cos Teal is such an unloved color she started a Teal Tuesday to give this wonderful shade some lovin’!
I don’t know if the entry I had will qualify cos I sort of got carried away and was inspired by a Japanese nail magazine.
Check it out!

20120725-012127.jpg

So I used Orly French tips for a base for the tips and topped it with alternating strips of skin food mint green and pop teal. I also pasted some nail stickers and bling on my thumbs and ring finger.

How do you all find it?

MF fantasy fire dupe?

Standard

Hi sweets! I dunno about you guys out there but yes I am guilty of being swept in by the Clarins 230 craze. I confess I considered getting a bottle of it from evil bay! Good thing sense and kismet prevented me from doing this because darling Max Factor came up with the wonderful Fantasy Fire! I shan’t bore you with the blood, sweat and tears that took me to swap the first bottle BUT my nail polish fairy in the form of Annette from Shoppe Eclecticco bought them in from the UK!!! (victory dance).
At the same time, I read somewhere that Pam from Girly Bits created a dupe too!! Of course I immediately rushed to get a bottle from my other nail polish fairy Mei Mei from Mei Mei Signatures.
I am going to do a blow by blow comparison and please excuse the picture spam 🙂
First, check out the bottle shots!

20120721-224658.jpg
As you can see, girly bits weighs in much more as fantasy fire is such a teeny tiny little bottle! That being said, the size of the bottles in no way affects the brush of either. They both apply beautifully with no drag and the formula of both are neither too thick or too thin. Very nice!

20120721-225001.jpg

20120721-225025.jpg
On to the effect on my nails. I topped both under the Nars dupe that I bought from Bangkok. It’s a very very dark almost black green.

20120721-225142.jpg
I stared at my nails for a while and frankly I cannot tell the difference. Both are multichromes that shifts from olive green, red, purple and green.

20120721-225447.jpg

20120721-225506.jpg
It’s like mini bursts of shimmer in your nails.
FF has a strong purple jelly base whereas SH has a slightly red base. It’s quite neutral and for that reason, I suspect it will work better with lighter bases as compared with FF.

I am going to try both with different variations of dark polishes and see how they differ. One thing for sure, I can’t tell the difference for this base that I am using.
If you are lemming for unicorn pee, I would say scoring either are not shabby alternatives at all.

Nars Zulu lost twin?

Standard

Hi lovelies! I have been lemming the fabled Nars Zulu since like… forever. As it was almost impossible to get them to ship to Singapore, I took matters in my own hand an started to look for dupes all over the place.
As the nail polish gods would have it, I found this little treasure in Bangkok! The platinum mall to be specific and I was super happy cos this cost like SGD2!

20120721-153005.jpgI
Not that I am a nail polish snob but I usually will not scour thru unnamed brands in case it causes terrible yellowing or worse make nails weak and brittle, but desperate times calls for desperate measures! Amazingly, this applies really well and has a jelly texture AND it does not cause yellowing! Check out the brush, it’s wide but not too much. To me, it felt just nice!

20120721-153412.jpg
Check out the color! I reckon it’s a pretty close dupe of Zulu don’t you think?

20120721-153509.jpg

20120721-153539.jpg

20120721-153547.jpg
The color is a deep dark green, indoors it looks almost black but under the sun and flash the lovely dark rich green shines thru.
This has got to be one of my best nail buys ever! I am not sure if I can find it again in Bangkok but I shall be on the lookout! 🙂

Summer’s In!

Standard

Hi lovelies!! The only thing to cheer me up on a Sunday night …. Bright mani mania!
I went color crazy and tried this M&M-ish French. Check it out!

20120715-222610.jpg

20120715-222625.jpg
I used Barielle’s Buddah-full as a base and used bright neon-ish summer colors for tips.
The colors I used for the tip starting from the thumbs are – ChinaGlaze’s Flip Flop Fantasy, CG’s Flying Dragon ( love this name!), Three Beauties Neon Orange, Neon Green and Neon yellow.

Apple jelly sandwich

Standard

Hi lovelies. Received some really bad news this evening and I needed a really bright mani to cheer me up.
I have here The Nail Junkie’s apple green shimmer. It’s been sitting in my helmer for a long while and I have been wanting to swatch this for ages. It’s a cool jelly bright apple green. Reminds me so much of those sour apple candies that I love 🙂
I used three layers and topped it with one layer of ATG’s spotty dotty white. And then one more later of apple green to complete the jelly sandwich.

20120713-004041.jpg

20120713-004035.jpg

20120713-004047.jpg
Application –
For The base, THJ’s formula is really nice and ‘jelly-ish’. The holo’s pretty subtle and shines thru nicely. I love it that the polish does not have that strong smell that most polishes have. And I adore the ‘squishy,jelly-ish’ effect of this polish (did I mention that jelly is my fave food?).
I decided to top this with ATG’s spotty dotty white. This was really easy to work with for a glitter polish. It has matt white glitter in all sorts of shapes and sizes. The base is slightly thick but that makes it easier to scoop the glitters out as it is suspended instead of sinking to the base.

What do you all think? Please feel free to drop me comments, I would love to hear from you!

Duochromes comparison – Chanel vs Opi

Standard

On with the comparison. I give you the comparison between Chanel Peridot and Opi Just spotted the lizard from the spiderman collection. I used Chanel for my left hand and opi on my right. the formula for both are not very runny but neither are they very thick. They are both easy to handle and have very minimal brushstrokes. Two to three coats are good to go opaque.
This color is so amazing I cannot help but spazz on the pics. Here we go –

20120709-231048.jpg

20120709-231055.jpg

20120709-231101.jpg
The color shifts from an olive to a bluish turquoise. Totally amazing!
As you can see from the pics, I really cannot tell the difference between opi and the Chanel. I guess I will it for a few more days to see which will wear better.

20120709-231321.jpg
I got my Opis as part of the mini spider man collection. Isnt it cute? The only problem I have with them is that they are tiny! Including the brush, which may make it a bit hard to work with. But isn’t it totally cute! 🙂

What do you think?
I got the opi mini from Dyon International here

There are holos and there are holos

Standard

Hi there! I am so excited about this post as I have been wanting to do a comparison on holos for the longest time!
I know there are heaps and heaps of holo reviews, swatches on Nfu Oh but never have I come across reviews on the less well known brands ( or maybe I have not been surfing as much as I would have liked to 🙂 ).

Anyways, the comparisons today are –
Thumb – Nfu Oh 61
Index – Make Up Store Madeleine
Third – Glitter Gal Silver 3D holo
Ring – Priti Polish 604 lambstail cactus
Pinky – Jade Psicodelica

20120706-003110.jpg
On my fingers they look like

20120706-003400.jpgwith flash

20120706-003434.jpgwithout flash
I would say in terms of colors the Nufu and the Makeupstore is 99.99% an exact dupe and the same goes for the Jade and Glitter gal.
Even their formulae feels exactly the same. Nufu and MUS are both thick and covers totally opaque in one coat. I feel one coat is really enough but I applied two just because I am used to it. As for Glitter Gal and Jade, they apply really sheer, as the pics below shows –

20120706-003851.jpgone coat

20120706-003933.jpgtwo coats

I must have applied five coats for Jade and GG as they are really sheer. But, the great thing is because they are so sheer, it’s a breeze to apply and you can control it a lot better. In terms of color and the level of ‘halo-ness’, they are all blinding blingers 🙂 its just the Nfu oh and MUS’s have a more silver base whereas the other two have a slightly gunmetal grey as a base.
I wore this manicure with the special Nfu Oh base coat for all fingers and also I applied Sally Hansen’s diamond top coat. I know you are not supposed to wear topcoat for holos but I am a creature of habit! 🙂
20120706-013959.jpg

For the ring finger, I applied a lovely black holo from Priti Polish. I love how the black holo shimmers and its a ‘green’ polish! This is what they said on their website –

Priti NYC polishes are all completely non-toxic and made without toluene, dibutyl phthalate (DHB) and formaldehyde- all known carcinogenic ingredients. The luxury polishes are fast drying, chip resistant, contain a UV inhibitor, and are extremely durable and glossy. They are also completely safe for use on children and moms-to-be.

I really like the formula for this as its not too thin nor thick in consistency and the holo is quite subtle. Under artificial light, it looks almost brown/lavender.

More pics under the sunlight for comparison, do you see the difference?

20120706-155322.jpg
This was taken in daylight. I think you can see the color difference a lot better here.

20120706-155554.jpg
UPDATE –
It’s official folks! The Nfuoh’s cannot stay on nails as long as the rest. The polish on my thumb peeled off really easily this morning. After four days of wear. While the rest are still going strong with absolutely no chipping even after I packed my storeroom yesterday. So! The verdict is out! Unfortunately if you like the holo-silver effect of the Nfus you may need to try other brands like Gosh as Makeup Store’s holos has been discontinued about two years ago. 😦
At any rate, I think the Jade and Glitter Gal looks great and if anything more bling then the Nfu ohs. So, if you are looking for bling blinders, give either a try!
I got my jade from Annette of shoppe eclecticco and glittergal fromMei Mei
