Spotted tie dye

Hi lovelies! I have something super duper special for you guys today. Some time back Annette from shoppe eclecticcooffered fast fingers Facebook friends an opportunity to get the super exclusive released only in Europe Opi Spotted! Of course I jumped at the opportunity to grab it.
Trust me I was like Gollum from LOTR wrapping my hands around the precious bottle muttering ‘my precioussssssss’ when I received it.
Check it out!

I had initially wanted to layer this over a gradation of red, blue, yellow and green. This didn’t work cos the gradation could not be seen. So note to self, use just one base colour for this baby.
Application was slightly tricky cos it works best when it’s applied very thinly. I mean really thin, brush against the bottle twice thin.
The end result looks amazing, it’s spot on for a tie dye look. I would love to try this mani in another color combo but it’s so precious I need to think about a great color base…
Once again Annette has confirmed she is indeed my nail polish fairy godmother 🙂 thanks Annette!!
Hope you all like this combo and thanks for reading!

Halloween nails

Hi everyone! I have a special Halloween nail art inspired by The Daily Nail. I absolutely adore her blog and her wonderful designs. Anyway, she did a spate of Halloween inspired nail art and this interesting one caught my eye. Check mine out!

The above pix was taken without flash. Anyway I painted a neutral colour as a base and before it dried, topped it with a thick coat of SV and sort of pushed it to smudge it for that ‘melting flesh’ effect. I then dotted it with a red for blood and mixed it up with a bit of yellow for pus.

I wanted to create a pus filled bleeding nail bed with melting flesh. Hope it totally grossed you out :p
Happy Halloween everyone! Trick or treat! 🙂

Marble Mania!!

Hi lovelies! I cannot wait to share this so here I am posting at the wee hours of the morning.
I was really inspired after reading about Susan’s marbling on the subtle shimmer. I really wanted to try the flower water marble design as shown by Aubrey Hannah.
As clear as her instructions were, I want to share more tips on this design.
The problems I faced in the beginning were EPIC.
The polish won’t spread.
Too much polish on the design and after dipping the nail, design was totally ruined.
The flower formation was really hard to form etc etc etc.
I hung on purely cos I was really stubborn and refused to give up. Hehehe so you guys out there who are trying this technique – don’t give up!!
It took me two full days of watching YouTube vids, trail and error to finally get the hang of it (sort of). I do not claim to be an expert at this but at least I can get the design going instead of ending up with a congealed mess of polish(yuks).
To start –
Get ALL your tools ready. I used the following:
– orange stick
– dotting tool or needle or toothpicks. (basically anything fine and sharp)
– Nail polish remover
– Cotton pads ( lots of it )
– kitchen paper
– polish (of course) ^^
– A shot glass (important)
– scotch tape (to wrap around fingers to prevent excess polish sticking to fingers)

Warning – DoNot use polish that is super limited edition cos marbling takes up ALOT of polish.

Findings –
1. Use a small glass or plastic cup. Preferably in the size of a shot glass. I find using a bigger cup means you need to use more polish to create a bigger bulls eye.

2. Use filtered water – I find that it makes a slight difference in how the polish spreads.

3. For the flower design, after you form the ‘flower’ and you still find the centre of the flower messy, simply dip the orange stick to the middle of the bulls eye.
This way, the orange stick will ‘carry’ the excess polish away. This also eliminates the problem of too much polish in the design as this will ruin the whole look when you dip.

4. Do not start dragging the design on the extreme outter ring. Start from the third or forth ring. This way the polish has not formed a film and won’t drag your design.

5. Taping – personally I feel taping is really helpful else you will have to use a colossal amount of remover to get rid of the excess polish.

6. Spreading polish – if the polish floats on top of the water but does not spread, use an orange stick or a pin to swirl gently the outer rim of the polish. This helps to spread the polish.

Overall the whole idea is to ensure a thin layer of polish is ‘floating’ on top of the water. So, the polish has to spread.

Sorry for the long winded post. Check out the results.

This is the mess that I created. I repeat keep trying and don’t give up!!

Happy 47th Singapore!

A very very happy birthday Singapore! I am from the tiny island country of Singapore and today it is the 47th anniversary of our independence from the British.
Of course I had to try my hand on some patriotic nail art to celebrate this occasion.

I used a really old Opi polish named Mat-adored red. Its so old its a black label 🙂 and Sally Hansen’s hard as nails white tip. While they are not 47 years old, they are the oldest polish in my stash.

I used red and white base on alternate fingers and stenciled a curve to simulate the shape of the moon. Then I stuck five stars to represent the five stars on our flag.
Hope you like today’s birthday mani. Happy birthday Singapore!

Duochromes comparison – Chanel vs Opi

On with the comparison. I give you the comparison between Chanel Peridot and Opi Just spotted the lizard from the spiderman collection. I used Chanel for my left hand and opi on my right. the formula for both are not very runny but neither are they very thick. They are both easy to handle and have very minimal brushstrokes. Two to three coats are good to go opaque.
This color is so amazing I cannot help but spazz on the pics. Here we go –

The color shifts from an olive to a bluish turquoise. Totally amazing!
As you can see from the pics, I really cannot tell the difference between opi and the Chanel. I guess I will it for a few more days to see which will wear better.

I got my Opis as part of the mini spider man collection. Isnt it cute? The only problem I have with them is that they are tiny! Including the brush, which may make it a bit hard to work with. But isn’t it totally cute! 🙂

What do you think?
I got the opi mini from Dyon International here

Grasshopper concert nails

Hi there! TGIF!
Today I have for you M&Ms nails in glitter. A different color for each finger and with bling. I was simply so excited to get my order of the new collection of ATG that I can’t wait to try them out! I totally forgot that I had a grasshopper concert to go to today. And how can I not do a set of totally OTT nails match their OTT show? Heheh. For those who are not familiar with Asian pop, the grasshoppers are possibly the first techno/disco boy band in the late 80s early 90s. I remembered their very first appearance in Singapore when I was attending secondary school. I am a giant fan of Anita Mui (their mentor) and naturally I got to check them out as they were her back up dancers then. It’s amazing that till this day, their energy on stage is exactly the same! Really high and great dancing and singing skills. Love it.
Anyway this is the MV that inspired me to do this manicure.
Grasshopper’s high energy concert

So I figured bling is definitely in order for this occasion! Hehe

The breakdown of the colors used are –
Thumb – Skin Food Pedicure sparkle gold (base), All that glitters spotty dotty gold (top)
Index – The face shop blue (base), LA Girl glitter addict jostle (top)
Middle – China glaze Ruby Pumps (base), ATG spottie Dottie Rosie (top)
Fourth – Three Beauties neon green 31 (base), Orly here comes trouble and Opi fresh frog of belair (top)
Pinky – Opi DS temptation (base), Skin food purple glitter (top)

Bling Bling Bling! Hope you all like it 🙂

LV nail :p

I got the Fab Ur Nails giant nail stamping plate from Annette of Shoppe EclecticCoAnnette

This plate is really nice as its got most of the zany elements that I love – LV, Hello Kitty, Russian doll etc etc. This stamps really well as the designs are edged pretty deep ( bundle monster are you listening to me?).

So at a spur of the moment. I decided to try the LV monogram plate. I wanted to match the color of the classic
Monogrammed bag and so I had Opi’s You Don’t Know Jacques as a base and stamped it with Konad light bronze. Turned out pretty well don’t you think? For a non LV fan that is. Hehehe
