Stamping cocktail

Standard

Hi there! It’s the weekend here but seems like I will be working thru this weekend while recovering from fever and cough. Ain’t fun…. Anyway I DO have a fun mani on today.
I was inspired by a friend who posted this photo on Facebook and asked if anyone can teach her how to do this.
Sorry the pic was not watermarked or anything so if it belongs to someone please let me know and I will gladly credit her.

Whilst my stamping skills are not even a fraction of this talented nail artist, I just had to try this!
So this is my version of the cocktail stamping.

Excuse my crazy dry cuticles, have not given them any TLC lately 😦
Anyhoo, this was done using the face shop’s white creme as a base. This has got to be my absolute favorite white creme polish. No streaking, covers in two coats and cheap as chips! What’s not to love?
I then stamped an assortment of designs using Konan, Bundle Monster and Red Angel’s plates. It was really challenging to match the positioning for the thumb and index finger. Hope I didn’t do too bad. I found that using a used or old credit card as a scrapper works sooo much better than the konad or normal scrapper. Somehow the finer details gets picked up. Do try this method for stamping sometime. Thanks for dropping by and have a great weekend all! ❤

Teal Tuesday – Foil nails – minx dupe?

Standard

Hi sweets! It’s Tuesday for TT again! This week’s theme is Geometric nails and as usual I am late oops ><

Anyway I have been fiddling with nail foils and have bought a bunch of foils from dollar nail art for ages (two years!). I was inspired by the lovely shiny minx nails look and had wanted to try this look for-evar! So today I have on my nails a teal-ish foil called Ocean Mist. The color reminds me of beetle wings as it flashes green, blue, gold with little ‘bubbles’ in gold and small purple flecks.

I cannot wait to get them on my nails! Check it out!

With flash

The irritating thing about foils is that they are like mirages, they do not stay like that and probably can only last for a few hours tops. I have yet to find a perfect topcoat to seal in the beautiful shine 😦
You see, the recommendation for foils is to not use fast drying topcoat as it crinkles the foil terribly. They didn’t tell us that even slow drying topcoat crinkles like crazy. I did some searching and someone on YouTube mentioned Star Nails Nail Art Finishing Sealant works…. So of course I jumped on it and ordered a couple of bottles. To be fair, it worked the best among all the topcoats I have tried BUT it was still not exactly satisfactory. I then stamped the mani over a geometric design from Red Angel plate 108 with konad black special polish.

What do you think? Will you use foils? If you do please share your experience ok? Till the next time! 🙂

Teal Tuesday – ovarian cancer awareness

Standard

Hi Lovelies! Sorry I have been behind in my posts lately cos I have been away for two weekends in a row… 🙂

This week, Teal Tuesday is especially meaningful as we are raising awareness for ovarian cancer.  Teal is the ribbon color for awareness and support of ovarian cancer and September is the National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

Some information on Ovarian Cancer that we might not be aware of from their website

Ovarian Cancer is one of the most deadly of women’s cancers. Each year, approximately 21,880 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer. In 2010, approximately 13,850 women will die in the United States from ovarian cancer. Many women don’t seek help until the disease has begun to spread, but if detected at its earliest stage, the five-year survival rate is more than 93%. Recent research suggests that together the four symptoms of: bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, difficulty eating or feeling full quickly and urinary urgency or frequency may be associated with ovarian cancer.

Anyway, on with the nail stuff!

This mani almost did not happen as I just got my nail mail on Tuesday which consisted of Hits Holo blue and Klean Colour’s Holo Chrome and REALLY wanted to swatch it.

I used both of them and did a gradation glitter mani. Then I got to thinking, how about a duochrome holo? Wouldn’t that be totally blingtastic!? So I topped this with Girly Bit’s Street Magic.  This combination yielded a blingtastic, duo chrome holo that flashes blue, green, gold, holo…. and then stamped it with BM ribbon plate in silver.

Check it out!

How do you find the effect?

Would you try a duochrome-holo?

Violet holos!!

Standard

I got my order of Jade holos today from Annette of Shoppe Eclecticco shoppe Eclecticco and decided to let Violeta be my NOTD. 🙂
On with the pics!

I was quite happy with the brush as its not thin like some. Although not as wide as Opi, it does the job.
I find the formula for this a little bit thick so I can imagine it will work well for stamping.
Some more pics! This looks amazingly different when I use flash. Check out the bling!

The color is a wonderful periwinkle violet which works quite well with my skin tone. I am waiting to take some pics under the sun. Am quite sure it will be gorgeous 🙂

To add interest, I used bundle monster stamping plate and did a layer of lace like design to bring out the the base color more. Sadly, it can only be seen under the flash (shucks!).

I shall see how it wears over these few days. Till then! Good night from my part of the world heheh
PS- under the crazy hot sun today it looks like this!

Hello Kitty Nails (Kawaiiiiii….)

Standard

Hi lovelies!

Ok I must admit, I have a love-hate thing going on with Hello Kitty. On the one hand, I love the cutesy-ness of it all, but really on a close to 40 y.o., I am not sure if it is too much 😛

Anyway, this was the very first stamping that I did after I got the plate from Annette, I was super duper excited and wanted to try out a very fine gradation base to bring out the ‘cute-sy’ feel of it.

Inspired by The Swatchoholic blog, I used a very fine makeup sponge and mixed a few pastel colours and this is how it turned out –

With this base, I stamped this –

Look at how well the plate stamps! Every little detail shows!

What do you think? Is this too much for someone in the 30s?

LV nail :p

Standard

I got the Fab Ur Nails giant nail stamping plate from Annette of Shoppe EclecticCoAnnette

20120625-204145.jpg
This plate is really nice as its got most of the zany elements that I love – LV, Hello Kitty, Russian doll etc etc. This stamps really well as the designs are edged pretty deep ( bundle monster are you listening to me?).

So at a spur of the moment. I decided to try the LV monogram plate. I wanted to match the color of the classic
Monogrammed bag and so I had Opi’s You Don’t Know Jacques as a base and stamped it with Konad light bronze. Turned out pretty well don’t you think? For a non LV fan that is. Hehehe
